CVDKGrand Planetarium Eccentric Meteorite
The CVDK Grand Planetarium Eccentric Meteorite brings together two expressions of the solar system: a mechanical planetarium displaying all eight planets in real time, and a 44 mm case crafted from genuine meteorite. Beneath the sapphire crystal, blue aventurine glass, hand-painted planets and fragments of Martian meteorite complete a watch limited to a maximum of three pieces.
A fragmentshaped by time
The case begins with a fragment of iron meteorite that spent billions of years beyond Earth before eventually falling to its surface. Its slow formation created the distinctive crystalline structures visible throughout the material.
Transforming that fragment into a watch case required an equally unusual process. Analysis revealed a composition of 91.66% iron, 7.64% nickel and 0.7% cobalt, while the extreme hardness of the material made machining considerably more demanding than conventional precious metals. Each finished case preserves the individual structure of the meteorite from which it was made.

Specifications
Alongside the Eccentric Planetarium, the watch displays hours, minutes and seconds, together with the date and zodiac. The rotating CVDK Sun logo at the centre serves as the running seconds indication.

Caseback
At the heart of the CVDK Grand Planetarium Eccentric Meteorite is the Manufacture movement with uni-directional automatic winding. It combines a free-sprung hairspring and variable-inertia balance with a jewelled Swiss lever escapement, running at 21,600 vibrations per hour and providing a power reserve of up to 60 hours.

The Eccentric Planetarium
The Grand Planetarium Eccentric is the only mechanical planetarium watch in the world to display all eight planets. Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune orbit the Sun in real time, following eccentric paths designed to reflect their astronomical motion as closely as possible.
The difference in scale is considerable. Mercury completes its orbit in 87.97 days, while Neptune requires 164.80 years. Bringing these eight orbital periods together mechanically results in a construction containing a total of 3,338 gear teeth.

Made in theCVDK atelier
Every Christiaan van der Klaauw watch is made by hand and subjected to extensive quality testing in the atelier. Each watch is delivered in a CVDK presentation box and covered by a three-year warranty on the movement and case. Watches from the Collection of Astronomical Masterpieces are also supplied with a removable Swiss Kubik watch winder to keep the astronomical complication running accurately.
