Orion Matt Black on the wrist: brushed titanium case, dark dial and rotating star map

Collection of the Stars - CKOR99O4

CVDKOrion Matt Black

The CVDK Orion Matt Black gives the rotating Planisphere a distinctly technical setting. Its dark celestial map follows the stars and constellations visible across much of the northern hemisphere, completing one rotation in 23 hours, 56 minutes and 4.0916 seconds. A matt-black dial, brushed Grade 5 titanium case and black Sailcloth/FKM strap complete the monochrome execution.

The night skyin darker tones

At the centre of the Orion, the Planisphere reproduces the apparent movement of the northern night sky. Stars and constellations travel across the rotating celestial map according to the sidereal day rather than the familiar 24-hour solar cycle.

In this execution, the astronomical display is surrounded by matt black and brushed titanium. The restrained palette places the emphasis on the celestial map itself, while rhodium-plated details provide clarity against the darker dial.

The rotating Planisphere

The Orion’s Planisphere recreates the movement of the night sky as seen from much of the northern hemisphere. Its rotation follows the sidereal day, completing one cycle in 23 hours, 56 minutes and 4.0916 seconds rather than the 24 hours of a solar day.

As the map turns, stars and constellations move across the display in relation to the observer. Together with the Zodiac indication, the Planisphere transforms the changing sky above into a continuously moving mechanical complication.

The Orion after dark

Super-LumiNova reveals another side of the Orion once ambient light fades. Luminous details across the celestial display become visible against the dark Planisphere, allowing the stars and constellations to emerge more clearly at night.

On the Matt Black execution, the effect is particularly natural: the dark dial recedes while the illuminated astronomical details become the visual focus.

Made in theCVDK atelier

The CVDK atelier produces only a limited number of watches each year, allowing every watch to receive the attention its construction and finishing require. Each watch is assembled by hand, subjected to extensive quality testing and delivered in a dedicated CVDK presentation box with a three-year warranty on the movement and case.

Collection ofthe Stars

The Collection of the Stars explores astronomy through a diverse range of mechanical complications, from rotating celestial maps and moon phases to calendars and chronographs. Each watch offers its own interpretation of the relationship between mechanical time and the sky above.
