CVDKPlanetarium Black Aventurine

The CVDK Planetarium places the world’s smallest mechanical Planetarium within the depth of a black Aventurine dial. At 6 o’clock, Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn orbit the Sun according to their real astronomical periods. A 40 mm stainless steel case and black ostrich foot leather strap complete the darker interpretation.

Astronomyin a darker register

Black Aventurine gives the Planetarium a more restrained expression of the night sky. Fine points of reflected light appear across the dark glass surface, revealing themselves differently as the dial moves beneath the light.

Against this background, the coloured Sun and Earth become focal points within the rhodium-plated Planetarium. Six planetary cycles continue in real time at 6 o’clock, turning the compact display into a mechanical representation of the inner Solar System.

Specifications

The CVDK Planetarium combines hours and minutes with date and month indications. Its astronomical module at 6 o’clock displays Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn travelling around the Sun according to their individual orbital periods.

The smallest mechanical Planetarium

The mechanical Planetarium at 6 o’clock reduces six real planetary cycles into a display small enough to sit within the dial. Mercury is closest to the central Sun, followed by Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn.

Their different orbital periods remain mechanically linked to astronomical time: Mercury completes a revolution in 87.97 days, Venus in 224.70 days, Earth in 365.24 days and Mars in 686.98 days. Jupiter requires 11.86 years, while Saturn takes 29.46 years to return to its starting point.

Made in theCVDK atelier

Every Christiaan van der Klaauw watch is made by hand and subjected to extensive quality testing in the atelier. Each watch is delivered in a CVDK presentation box and covered by a three-year warranty on the movement and case. Watches from the Collection of Astronomical Masterpieces are also supplied with a removable Swiss Kubik watch winder to keep the astronomical complication running accurately.
