Planetarium Skeleton Platinum in platinum with a transparent sapphire dial

Astronomical Masterpiece - CKPT22SK

CVDKPlanetarium Skeleton Platinum

The CVDK Planetarium Skeleton Platinum reveals the architecture behind the world’s smallest mechanical Planetarium. A transparent sapphire dial opens the astronomical module fully to view, with sculptural bridges shaped as the CVDK Sun logo radiating across the mechanism. At 6 o’clock, Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn orbit the Sun in real time. The watch is housed in a 40 mm platinum case and limited to six individually numbered pieces.

The universe,revealed

Skeletonisation changes the way the CVDK Planetarium is experienced. Instead of concealing the mechanism beneath a traditional dial, sapphire allows light to pass through the watch and exposes the relationship between the astronomical display and the gearing beneath it.

Custom-made bridges take the form of the CVDK Sun logo, their twelve sculptural arms extending across the module. Rhodium-plated surfaces and blued Roman numeral indexes bring clarity and contrast to an architecture designed to make the mechanics themselves part of the dial.

Specifications

The Planetarium Skeleton Platinum combines hours and minutes with date and month indications and the CVDK heliocentric Planetarium. At 6 o’clock, Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn move around the Sun according to their real astronomical periods.

The Planetarium Skeleton Platinum is powered by the automatic CKM-01 Manufacture movement. A free-sprung hairspring and variable-inertia balance wheel regulate the movement at 21,600 vibrations per hour, or 3 Hz, while the power reserve extends to 60 hours.

The smallest mechanical Planetarium

At 6 o’clock, the smallest mechanical Planetarium in the world displays the real-time motion of six planets around the Sun. Mercury completes its orbit in 87.97 days, Venus in 224.70 days, Earth in 365.24 days and Mars in 686.98 days. Jupiter requires 11.86 years, while Saturn takes 29.46 years.

For the Skeleton Platinum, the planetary rings transition from a brighter light blue near the central Sun to progressively deeper tones toward the outer planets. The colour progression reflects the diminishing reach of sunlight across the Solar System and takes inspiration from Christiaan van der Klaauw’s original Planetarium creation.

Made in theCVDK atelier

Every Christiaan van der Klaauw watch is made by hand and subjected to extensive quality testing in the atelier. Each watch is delivered in a CVDK presentation box and covered by a three-year warranty on the movement and case. Watches from the Collection of Astronomical Masterpieces are also supplied with a removable Swiss Kubik watch winder to keep the astronomical complication running accurately.
