CVDKPlanetarium Onyx

The CVDK Planetarium Onyx sets the world’s smallest mechanical Planetarium against the deep, uninterrupted black of natural Onyx. Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn orbit the Sun in real time at 6 o’clock, while the 40 mm Grade 5 titanium case gives this interpretation a lighter and more technical character.

A celestial displayin black

Onyx gives the dial a character very different from the textured guilloché, Aventurine and meteorite interpretations of the Planetarium. Its smooth black surface creates a quiet backdrop, allowing the rhodium-plated astronomical display and hand-painted planets to stand clearly apart.

The brushed titanium case continues this restrained approach around the dial. Together, the two materials place the emphasis on the movement of the six planets rather than decorative complexity.

Specifications

Hours and minutes are joined by date and month indications and the CVDK Planetarium. Positioned at 6 o’clock, the compact astronomical module reproduces the real-time orbits of Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn around the Sun.

The smallest mechanical Planetarium

At 6 o’clock, the CVDK Planetarium brings six planetary cycles together within the smallest mechanical Planetarium in the world. Mercury sits closest to the central Sun, followed by Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn, each progressing according to its real astronomical period.

Mercury completes its orbit in 87.97 days, Venus in 224.70 days, Earth in 365.24 days and Mars in 686.98 days. The pace changes dramatically further outward: Jupiter requires 11.86 years, while Saturn takes 29.46 years to complete one revolution.

Made in theCVDK atelier

Every Christiaan van der Klaauw watch is made by hand and subjected to extensive quality testing in the atelier. Each watch is delivered in a CVDK presentation box and covered by a three-year warranty on the movement and case. Watches from the Collection of Astronomical Masterpieces are also supplied with a removable Swiss Kubik watch winder to keep the astronomical complication running accurately.
